Support Creators: Take Action Against Unlicensed AI Training

As the White House prepares to release its AI Action Plan this July, we’re urging the creative community to make their voices heard. The Copyright Alliance has launched a grassroots campaign—“Say ‘No’ to Unlicensed AI Training!”—calling on creators, advocates, and the public to email Congress and the President in support of copyright protections.

Here’s how you can help:

  • Visit the Take Action page to send pre-drafted letters to your representatives and the President.

  • Encourage friends, colleagues, and fellow creators to do the same.

  • Share campaign messages on social media to amplify the effort (sample posts provided on the Take Action page).

Your voice matters—let’s ensure AI companies play by the rules and respect the rights of creators!

Legal Update: Perlmutter v. Blanche et al.

The Copyright Alliance continues to monitor the ongoing legal battle concerning the leadership of the Library of Congress and the Copyright Office.

Shira Perlmutter has filed a motion for preliminary injunction arguing her removal was unlawful and that Todd Blanche’s appointment as Acting Librarian violated the Federal Vacancies Reform Act, as the Library of Congress is not considered an “executive agency” under the law. The motion emphasizes the constitutional implications and claims that her termination caused irreparable harm, warranting urgent judicial intervention.

Key developments:

  • The court denied Shira’s initial temporary restraining order (TRO) request, citing insufficient evidence of immediate harm.

  • She has now requested an expedited schedule for summary judgment or a preliminary injunction, aiming to resolve the dispute swiftly.

  • The government has opposed this request, disputing the urgency and questioning the legitimacy of the claims of irreparable harm.

The next major date to watch is June 24, when the government is expected to file its formal response.

Stay tuned—we’ll continue to provide updates on this pivotal case that could shape the future leadership and independence of the U.S. Copyright Office.
